Preparing for your newborn shoot

The best time to photograph newborns is between 5 and 12 days after birth. At this stage they are still sleepy flexible enough to fit comfortably in those sweet curled up poses. (After this age, they don’t sleep as deeply and are much more alert. They wake more easily when being moved from one pose to another. Babies as young as 10 days old often develop a little colic and “baby acne” from post birth hormones.)

It is a good idea to schedule your newborn session while you are still pregnant. A $200 session fee/deposit is required to secure a temporary session date for you. This secures your session. As soon as baby is born (because sometimes they arrive a little early, and others prefer to stay inside a little longer), I will give you a fixed date for your newborn shoot.

All newborn sessions are done at my home studio in Peachtree Corners, GA. All of my props, set ups, back drops, as well as lighting and temperature control is just perfect for baby to be cozy and to sleep beautifully. The studio and parents area is separated by glass doors. You will be able to see your baby at all times, and are welcome to pop into the studio to peep J. Knowing that your baby is being taken care of, I would love you to use this time to relax, watch some T.V, use the Wifi… and sleep.

Newborn sessions begin at 10:30am a.m. and typically end around 2:30pm. Newborn sessions take place during week days.

Notes for Parents:

Generally we would request that you sit in the parent area (nearby the studio). You’re always welcome to come and have a look but we prefer to keep your newborn peaceful and occasionally if they smell or hear you it might make them restless and harder to pose. We have a lot of experience with babies so you can relax and enjoy the break! If there is any problem or we struggle to settle your child we will definitely call for your assistance. The session takes 4 hours so please bring snacks, reading material, etc. You’re also welcome to sleep! We do have wifi so you can bring your laptop and work if you’d like to.
